Gable Carport and Driveway Upgrade in Gatton, Qld

A Complete Carport and Driveway Upgrade for a Gatton Home
Our team recently completed this carport and driveway upgrade for a home in Gatton, combining practical improvements to the property with a new custom-built gable carport. The project involved more than simply adding covered parking. Before construction of the new carport could begin, the existing driveway and retaining wall needed to be modified to create enough room for two vehicles and provide better access to the home.
Widening the Driveway and Rebuilding the Retaining Wall
The first stage of the project involved removing the existing retaining wall and widening the driveway to comfortably accommodate two vehicles. New concrete sleepers in a Heritage timber-look Charcoal finish were installed to create a strong, low-maintenance retaining wall that also suited the overall appearance of the property.
The same sleepers were used to form the face of the new concrete stairs leading up to the pathway towards the house, helping tie the different areas of the project together. The existing entry stairs to the home were also replaced with timber treads, creating a more open and welcoming approach to the house.
A New Gable Roof Carport
Once the groundwork and access improvements were complete, the new gable roof carport was constructed. The gable design provides generous covered parking while complementing the style of the existing home. The project features:
Roof style: Gable
Roof and barges: Manor Red
Roofing profile: Trimclad sheeting
Gable infill sheeting: Classic Cream
Gutter: Classic Cream
Parking capacity: Two vehicles
Additional Council Approval Requirements
Because the carport was positioned closer to the front property boundary than would normally be permitted under standard setback requirements, this project required additional approval.
Along with the standard Building Approval, our team also managed a siting/concurrence application to allow the carport to be constructed closer to the front boundary. Requirements such as setbacks and additional approvals can vary depending on the property and proposed structure, which is why these details are important to consider during the planning stage.
A Practical Upgrade for the Whole Property
This project is a good example of how a new carport can form part of a broader property improvement rather than being treated as a standalone structure. By widening the driveway, improving the retaining walls and stairs, and adding covered parking for two vehicles, the homeowners now have a more practical and better-connected entrance to their property.
